Relatively Minor
Laughter does not have to come from a major source. It could indeed be ... relatively minor.
It’s that time of year again when Santa becomes the most popular figure in town!
Last Saturday, he invited children to share their Christmas wishes at the downtown bank in Winterset. The jolly old elf settled beside a beautifully decorated evergreen tree adorned with shiny ornaments, twinkling lights, and little gifts. Many eager children hopped onto his lap, excited to share their Christmas lists. However, a few little ones clung tightly to their parents’ legs, their eyes wide with surprise as though they had seen a ghost. This reaction was entirely understandable, especially given the unusually warm weather that made it hard to embrace the Christmas spirit fully.
But let’s not forget — regardless of the weather, Santa has a keen eye for who’s been naughty or nice.
Adding to the holiday surprises, I encountered the most unexpected character of the season. On Sunday afternoon, while my husband and I were driving to Indianola for a leisurely brunch, I was taken aback to see the Grinch, that notorious green creature, riding toward us on a roaring motorcycle — just as green as ever!
His choice of transportation was as surprising as his presence. I couldn’t help but burst into laughter at the sight. I wasn’t sure if his bike was a Harley Davidson or something else entirely, and I had to double-take to confirm it was indeed the Grinch, mainly when he waved at us with his right hand. For a moment, I almost mistook him for Santa because, despite his green appearance, he was wearing a bright red suit with white fur trim and shiny black boots.
I could hardly believe my eyes when the Grinch drove right by! Filled with excitement, I turned to my spouse to see if he had spotted it, too, but he was looking elsewhere and completely missed the moment. I hope it actually happened and that I wasn’t just imagining it!
‘Tis the Christmas season; sometimes you have to believe.
