Relatively Minor
Laughter does not have to come from a major source. It could indeed be ... relatively minor.
While driving along Highway 28 west of Indianola a few weeks ago, I came across a trio of souls outside a small building. It wasn’t a spiritual awakening but a chance encounter that intrigued me enough to slow down and pull into the driveway for a closer look.
The first soul had a green exterior similar to an alien, prompting me to ponder the reality of suspected UFO sightings. The second soul, with a silver-gray coat, was less intimidating and put me at ease. However, it was the third soul that caught my eye. A gorgeous blue coat covered this one, apparently the youngest of the three.
In the back of my mind, I always wanted a soul. So I was very excited to have the opportunity to get to know this trio. Despite their differences, the seven, eight, and eleven-year-olds shared many characteristics. However, the oldest soul appeared to have traveled a long way with a few more wrinkles and visible signs of wear. Although my visit was brief, I learned that each of them hoped to find their forever home.
In the past, hamsters used to rely on their exercise wheels to move around. However, today they have abandoned that contraption for a more stylish ride and an entirely new way to roll. Interestingly, four out of five groups of hamsters agreed that “souls” were the way to go. Who am I to doubt their intelligence?
On the Friday after Thanksgiving, my husband and I revisited the souls. Unfortunately, my favorite of the three had already been adopted by another family. We chose the model with the silver-gray coat that was manufactured in 2015. It turned out to be the perfect choice when we took it for a drive. Now, I sit back and let the hamster take the wheel, while I enjoy the ride.
