Relatively Minor
Laughter does not have to come from a major source. It could indeed be ... relatively minor.
I consider myself a shopaholic, and I often find myself with a hole in my pocket. I love the thrill of hunting for great deals and discovering unique pieces that catch my eye. Although sticking to my budget can be challenging, it inspires me to get creative with my purchases. Each shopping experience is an opportunity to discover and celebrate the things I love!
I swung by the grocery store after work the other day to pick up a few items. Armed with a small cart for my shortlist, I navigated the aisles. With so many temptations lining both sides, I had to don my blinders like a well-trained racehorse to focus on bread, milk, and some biscuits to elevate tomorrow’s dinner.
Turning west down the pasta aisle, I thought my pantry could benefit from some elbow macaroni, which was reasonably priced and wouldn’t cost me an arm and a leg. However, my insatiable sweet tooth got the best of me as I sprinted to the ice cream section, tossing four glorious flavors into my tiny cart.
And because my self-discipline was clearly out to lunch, I detoured to the candy aisle to snag two boxes of Milk Duds. Nevertheless, I rationalized the purchase by asserting that chewing the chocolate pieces relieved my work-related stress.
As I approached the checkout, I was lucky to be the second person in line. I patiently waited for my turn while getting my payment ready. Next to me, the self-checkout machine was having quite a meltdown — its loud beeping was more chaotic than a toddler’s tantrum! The machine insisted the customer wasn’t following the instructions, confusing them. After trial and error, the customer finally determined what the machine wanted and completed the transaction. The machine sighed in relief and returned to its usual robotic demeanor.
When it was finally my turn, I felt grateful for the cashier, who provided prompt and courteous service — much better than the drama of the self-checkout. I left the store appreciating the human interaction and was relieved to have avoided the chaos of artificial intelligence.
