Relatively Minor
Laughter does not have to come from a major source. It could indeed be ... relatively minor.
They say it’s not over until the fat lady sings, so I still have hope. And no, I’m not referring to opera. During my recent yearly check-up, my doctor delivered some rather hefty news – she officially labeled me as obese. The only six-pack I have is the one in my fridge.
Nevertheless, I’m not giving up just yet! In the past month, I began taking singing lessons, and who knows? Maybe I’ll become a talented singer someday. I remember the Grammy award-winning singer who said, “It’s All About That Bass, ‘bout that bass, no treble.”
Well, I most certainly have the bass, and I will probably be in “treble” if I don’t change my unhealthy habits.
After receiving advice to reduce my sugar intake and increase my physical activity, I decided to take action. My first action was to completely clear my cupboard of carbohydrates, including the last energy bar. As a result, I made multiple trips to the trash can, which allowed me to meet my daily steps requirement.
Writing this column was an exercise of tremendous intensity. Wearing my Fitbit, which records every keystroke I make, I tracked over 250 steps and raised my heart rate without leaving my desk.
Surely a year’s worth of belly dancing should trim my thighs! However, I guess I can’t count shimmying to the fridge for a pint of ice cream as a way to cut calories. However, the sugary treat might work wonders toward the improvement of my belly. (I am sure 4 out of 5 doctors won’t agree with my recommendation.)
It’s been quite a transition for me, from the carefree days of the “see-food” diet to a more disciplined and healthy routine. Now, I eat light and consume vegetables like carrots, cauliflower, and broccoli – it’s like I’m turning into a rabbit! And if that wasn’t enough, I have to keep an eye out for the squirrels who are always trying to steal my nuts. It’s a constant battle.
